100 months and counting!

That is the message from the New Economics Foundation, who have recently issued a report stating that we have 100 months from August 2008 to avert runaway climate change, after which it will be too late. 100 months is 8 years and 4 months, so the suggested deadline is January 2017. Do nothing to combat climate change

E-day was intended to be a country-wide effort by the population to
switch off all of the unnecessary appliances in their homes; the aim was to
create a substantial reduction in energy use which would be registered by the
National Grid as a kind of huge monitoring system.

On the day it didn't go quite as planned; instead of the anticipated
reduction energy use was actually slightly higher than usual. Various
explanations were put forward; a cold snap saw more people running electric
heaters, and the publicity for E-day wasn't as successful as it might have
been.
