people still don't know nearly enough about human induced climate change

Peak Oil in Parliament

Last Tuesday, 15th of May I travelled to London to attend a combined meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Peak Oil & Gas (APPGOPO) and the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group (APPCCG) held in Committethe House of Commons. The subject of the meeting was 'Becoming a Low Carbon Society'.

Presenting to the meeting were Rob Hopkins, founder of Transition Towns, Shaun Chamberlain from the Lean Economy Connection on Tradable Energy Quotas (TEQs) and Simon Snowden from Liverpool University on Oil Vulnerability Auditing. The three presentations were very interesting (they are available as audio files on the APPGOGO web page together with the accompanying powerpoint slides); each one focused on a different approach to decarbonisation and so seeing them together, in the House of Commons, provided a sense of just how widespread the interest and concern about the linked issues of peak oil and climate change is becoming.
